The Role of Occlusion and Outcomes of Implant Therapy

Friday, March 02, 2007

Biomechanical forces from occlusion lead to bone modeling & remodeling. In addition to the biological consequences, there are mechanical consequences as a function of
implant design. These include dynamic fatigue, wear of abutments, implant-abutment connections and prosthetic materials. Occlusion is therefore a critical factor in the
service life of a restoration. In this presentation, Dr. Clark Stanford will talk about:

Understand various aspects of bone response to mechanical loading derived from occlusion
Understand the role of mechanical forces leading to osseous fatigue and ways to clinical measure changes in fatigue as a function of changes in bone stiffness (elastic modulus)
Understand the role of mechanical forces relative to implant design which leads to shortened
service life of the implant and/or the restoration
Buffet lunch included
Additional refreshments offered throughout the day (tea, coffee and soft drinks)
