The revision of negative treatment outcomes is a significant part of current endodontic practice. Both non-surgical and surgical retreatment procedures share the problem of a significant negative outcome in the presence of apical periodontitis. As pressures mount to replace theoretically "failed" endodontically treated teeth with implants, there is a need for a meaningful algorithm to provide the clinician a risk assessment prognosis analysis in treatment planning in order to resolve this conundrum. The evening's presentation will focus on the fundamentals, both technical and biological, that optimize endodontic functional success. Using a multimedia format, the presentation will address endodontic access/restorative issues, ultrasonics, nickel titanium rotary instrumentation and evidenced based irrigation protocols, mechanisms for repair of iatrogenic mishaps and new innovations in fiber post systems.

| Kenneth S. Serota, DDS, MMSc graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry in 1973 and was awarded the George W. Switzer Memorial Key for excellence in Prosthodontics. He received his Certifi cate in Endodontics and Master of Medical Sciences Degree in nuclear medicine from the Harvard-Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, MA. Ken provided an interactive endodontic program for the Ontario Dental Association from 1983 to 1997 and was awarded the ODA Award of Merit for his efforts in the provision of continuing education. The author of over sixty publications, he lectures on Endodontics internationally. He is on the editorial board of Endodontic Practice and the founder of ROOTS, an online educational forum for dentists from around the world who wish to learn cutting edge endodontic therapy. He is currently developing www.osseointegrate.com, a website dedicated to implant inclusion in comprehensive care. As well, he lectures on the empowerment digital technologies provide to the advancement of dental practice. |
