Amongst the many daily challenges of dental practice, radiology sometimes takes the back seat and we fall into a “radiographic routine” that is rarely re-examined. A review of basic principles will equip participants to more successfully and safely use radiology in their practices as a diagnostic tool. They will be better prepared to communicate with patients who “don’t want any x-rays” and gain patient confidence. Advanced imaging in dentistry, including Computed Tomography, Cone Beam Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, will also be introduced and the application of these modalities in diagnosis of the maxillofacial region will be discussed.
