The Halton Peel Dental Association is a component society of the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) and although our objectives are the same in terms of supporting our members and providing an organized voice for dentistry, we are here to support the specific needs of dentists in Mississauga, Oakville, Georgetown, Milton and Brampton. The Halton Peel Dental Association represents upwards of 600 dentists and is the largest component society in Canada. We are about:
- Continuing Education and helping dentists remain cutting-edge current in the various dental disciplines and with issues affecting our profession now and in the future.
- Providing a Community of Dentistry where dentists can meet to discuss their businesses or current issues or just take the opportunity to socialize with other members of the profession.
- And Local Representation for dentists in Halton Peel and operate a variety of initiatives throughout the year in addition to providing a local perspective to issues up for discussion at the ODA General Council in the spring and fall of each year.
Why Join the Halton Peel Dental Association?
Continuing Education: We believe that life long learning by our dentists and their staff is the key to success for every professional and allows us to serve our community and our patients in the best possible way. To this end, the Halton Peel Dental Association hosts several top quality continuing education courses on current and relevant clinical topics with well respected and well known speakers. For the upcoming year, for example, our courses span the disciplines of Endodontics, Anaesthesia, Surgery, Prosthodontics, Radiology, Orthodontics, Chiropractics and Practice Management with speakers including Dr. Ken Serota, Dr. Allen Burgoyne, Dr. Lawrence Gaum, Dr. John Zarb, Dr. Lesley David, Dr. David Psutka, Dr. Clarke Stanford, Dr. Eric Selnes, Dr. Ernest Lam, Dr. Andrew Moncars, Dr. Joel Weisberg and Ms. Anita Jupp. Additionally, three of the evening courses and one full day course are part of our Occlusion Study Club and focus specifically on Occlusion from the perspective of the different disciplines. Finally, our staff are not forgotten in our program and we have included an evening and full day seminar specifically of interest to these members of our team.
Professional Support: Through our seminars and social events we provide dentists with the opportunity to meet other dentists in the community and discuss and share business or dental issues and concerns. Several of our executive have been or are currently ODA councilors wherein they provide a voice for the Halton Peel Dental Community at the ODA General Council which has representatives from component societies across Ontario as well as from the Canadian Dental Association, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and various dental specialist societies. HPDA councilors undertake to bring a Halton Peel perspective to the discussions at hand as well as present issues that are of specific concern to dentists within the Halton Peel Area. In addition, should the need arise, the Halton Peel Dental Association through our Mediations Committee and the ODA will offer to facilitate conflict resolution for our members and their clients.
Social Events: Although our continuing education seminars are a healthy mix of laughter and learning, we do have several events specifically dedicated to socialization. Our Opening Gala this year was held at Ruth’s Chris Steak House and provided not only an opportunity to meet the HPDA executive including the HPDA line officers but also presidents from various other dental organizations including the ODA, RCDSO,CDA and the AGD; all while viewing Hi-Tech equipment, chatting with friends and enjoying the excellent cuisine . For the whole office we have planned a not to be missed day of skiing and snowboarding at the exclusive Caledon Ski Club; what an excellent opportunity for fun, fresh air and friends. And in the summer we will once again be hosting the annual HPDA Wine-tasting at the Mississauga Golf and Country Club. We will have the honor and pleasure of Canada’s premier wine authority Mr. David Lawrason, editor of Wine Access Magazine, to present and discuss the excellent wines from our selected region. This is always a well attended and enjoyable event of gourmet cuisine, amazing wines and wonderful company and I encourage everyone to sign up early and join us for this remarkable evening. And last but not least, for the golfers, test your skills or just have fun when you tee off with us at the HPDA Annual Golf Day at Blue Springs Clublink Course.
And Finally…
On behalf of the Halton Peel Dental Association, I would like to welcome all ODA member dentists in Halton Peel and other societies to join us for another exciting year of learning, collegiality, and socialization. We look forward to the new year and to sharing our planned program and initiatives with you. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
Sincerely Dr. Sonia Slawuta President Halton Peel Dental Association
